Windows 7 System Tweaks

Discalimer: Always create a Restore Point before editing the Windows Registry.
1. Aero Tweak:
Are you really frustrated because your Windows 7 Aero Visual keeps crashing now and then while playing certain games like CoD: MW or running certain applications like Picasa or while the power is down? Worry no more because I am going to make it right just for you!
Open regedit
In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
In the right details pane, create following Three DWORD (32-bit value) entry
UseMachineCheck, and set its value to 0.
Blur, and set its value to 0.
Animations, and set its value to 0.
Close the Regedit

Open CMD with Administrative Privileges and type the following commands:
Net Stop uxsms
Net Start uxsms

Your Aero problem is now solved forever!

2. Search the Internet from Start Menu:
Open Group Policy (gpedit.msc).

Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.
Double-click "Add Search Internet link to Start Menu," and from the screen that appears, select Enabled. Then click OK and close the Group Policy Editor.

3. Protect the privacy of your Explorer searches:

Open Group Policy (gpedit.msc).
Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer.
Double-click "Turn off display of recent search entries in the Windows Explorer search box" and select Enabled from the screen that appears. Then click OK. The recent searches feature will now be turned off.

4. WMP 12 Library Problems:
So you have been having trouble with Windows Media Player like:
1. You cannot view, add, or delete items in the library.
2. The Apply Media Information Changes option does not apply your settings and the progress indicator does not appear.
3. Error message that says the Library Database is corrupted.
4. Folders and files that are added to the Library are not saved.
This occurs because as with any database, information that is stored in the database or the database itself can become corrupted. The Windows Media Player library database can usually recover automatically from database corruption. However, the database may become corrupted in such a way that Windows Media Player cannot recover the database.

To resolve this problem, follow these steps
1. Close Windows Media Player
2. Open Run and type
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player
then click OK
3.  Delete all the files in the folder.
Problem Solved!
Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds this database.

5. Quick Launch
By default Windows 7 comes with Quick Launch bar, left side of the taskbar that contained shortcuts for programs, deactivated. However, if you really miss this little applet, you can add it back.

 Here's how to do it:
1. Right-click the taskbar and choose Toolbars --> New Toolbar.
2. You'll be asked to select a folder for where the new toolbar. In the Folder text box ,enter this text:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
3. Right-click the taskbar and uncheck "Lock the taskbar." Now right-click Quick Launch and uncheck next to "Show Text" and "Show Title". 4. Drag the vertical triple dotted line next to the Quick Launch bar to the left until all the icons are exposed. Lock the taskbar and you have a Quick Launch for yourself!

Windows 7 Tips

Disclaimer: I am not responsible if your system behave strangely after using and applying my guides. I am just sharing what I know best and that has been great for my system.
1.     Hidden Themes
There are many hidden themes in Windows 7! Just browse at:

C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT MCT-AU, MCT-CA, MCT-GB, MCT-US, and MCT-ZA

Each subfolder has wallpapers for a specific country: AU for Australia, CA for Canada, GB for Great Britain, US for the United States, and ZA for South Africa. Altogether, there are 5 hidden themes and 30 hidden wallpapers.
2.     Power Efficiency Report
Windows 7 includes a hidden tool that will analyze a laptop's energy consumption and make recommendations on how to improve it.
Run the command prompt as an administrator.
Type in the following:
powercfg -energy -output \Desktop\Energy_Report.html

The report should be ready by about a minute and will be saved at Desktop in HTML format. Review the report and follow the recommendations to improve laptop’s power performance.
3.     Speed up your system
Regularly clean up the system unused temporally files.
Open the Run Command, type the following one by one and delete all the contents.
temp
%temp%
recent
prefetch
4.     Windows Updates
Hope Microsoft doesn’t read this one. It’s important you update (download and install) the Windows 7 Updates provided by the Microsoft online. But if your copy of Windows 7 installed in your computer is not genuine/ cracked/ counterfeit version, DO NOT install the update KB971033. After installing this update, you keep receiving really annoying messages from Microsoft like reminder at every start-up and indelible water-mark message on the desktop that says something like Get A Genuine Copy. Other updates are safe and always keep upto date!
5.     Disk Defragmentation
Fragmentation makes your hard disk do extra work that can slow down your computer. Removable storage devices such as USB flash drives can also become fragmented. Disk Defragmenter rearranges fragmented data so your disks and drives can work more efficiently.

Disk Defragmenter runs on a schedule, but you can also analyze and defragment your disks and drives manually. Don’t forget to Defragment your drives once in a month.
6.     System Restore Point
System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as e‑mail, documents, or photos.

Sometimes, the installation of a program or a driver can cause an unexpected change to your computer or cause Windows to behave unpredictably. Usually, uninstalling the program or driver corrects the problem. If uninstalling doesn't fix the problem, you can try restoring your computer's system to an earlier date when everything worked correctly.

So create a Restore Point manually every now and then to free  from the prospect of reinstalling the Windows 7 (read formatting) all over again.
